The Grid Artwork Process

I did a little contribution artwork for the movie Tron Legacy back at his opening in theaters. It was a fun experimental typography that took me around 6 hours of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Today the movie is coming out on DVD, so I decided to show you guys the process of "My Grid" artwork inspired by the movie. As you can see, I started it all with a simple gradient for the background and later added the typo vector base, the shadow and of course the lighting to complete the poster.

I hope that was enjoyable to see in a few pictures the process of this artwork! Now go grab the movie and you'll see there's a lot of 'color dodge' effects in the Tron Legacy Movie! :)

Earth Hour 2011 on March 26th

blog post image

On March 26th, the whole world is coming together for one hour of pure celebration.

It's the annual Earth Hour celebration and this time my friend Radim Malinic from ColourSpaces was throwing an amazing poster contest for the event. We had to design a poster to express our vision of the Earth Hour.

It was an offer that I couldn't refuse so here's my submission. I wanna congratulate the winner Antony Kitson that did a simple but effective design. Awesome job! To check out the submissions, just click here.

Let us remember that on March 26th, to turn off the lights for the better of our future!

Help Japan

blog post image

As you may have heard, Japan was destroyed by an 8.9 earthquake and tsunami.

I almost spent the whole day watching the news and checking the tweets on Twitter. I couldn't barely work because of this disaster. I wasn't gonna sit there and do nothing, so I decided do whatever I can, to help the situation in Japan.

One of my good friend James White from Signalnoise started something amazing today on his blog. He showed us some good links for us to donate for the Japan relief. Check out the link by clicking here.

Inspired by the movement created by James White and others like Hydro74 and PJ Tierney. I decided to make this print entitled: Wake from Death and Return to Life. It's a japanese expression "kishi kaisei" and it means "To come out of a desperate situation and make a complete return in one sudden burst." It's to honour the courage of the japanese people after such a montruous tragedy.

I already sent this 12 x18 in poster to my printer and this will be included into a set of two (2) posters for sale on my online store. I'll include also my Retro Montreal Poster as a gift for your support!

I'll also put down the prices of what's left from the Montreal Meets Store and ALL the sales will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

As a designer, it's the least I can do to help those you can't do anything right now and this whole disaster makes you feel very fortunate for what you have in your life. I hope my gesture will inspire you to do the same! Join me.

Thank you and let's help Japan! Peace!

The current news with Montreal Meets

blog post imageblog post imageblog post image

I had such an amazing week so far! So here's some of the news that happened earlier this week.

First things first, I published the Montreal Meets Recap 2011 Video on Vimeo. To be pretty honest, it was my very first attempt of making a video montage. I am really happy with the result and my goal was to really captivate the great moments of the event for those who couldn't be there.

So here's the link for you guys if you haven't seen it yet: http://vimeo.com/20822771

Secondly, I answered some questions with the mighty Colin Oakes from OakesDesign.ca about the next Montreal Meets happening in 2012. If you wanna check that out, click on the link here.

And also take a look at Colin's website; it's full of great articles and more!

Last but not least, I gave a speech on March 9th at Concordia University for "Industry Meets the Makers" with DASA. I wanted to thank the people that manage to found some time on their Wednesday afternoon to meet me! It had a great time talking about my experience in the business and my path for making the Montreal Meets.

Thanks guys for your support and stay tuned because there's more news coming real soon!
